About Me

Welcome! I'm Ian, a designer and developer focused on creative software tools. I've been designing software since 2012, mainly for the animation, film and TV industry, including working on Maya, Bifrost and creating Cavalry amongst other bits and pieces.

I wrote this guide in part due to frustration that there is so very little information out there with regards to designing professional software, and what little information there is has become quite out of date with the last book on this subject published in 2004.

You may well not agree with everything I've written here, but it's almost all either the result of research, or first hand experience, though I do occasionally allow myself an opinionated rant, for example, I really do hate hamburger menus, I know it's not rational, I just hate them.

I'm happy and willing to change anything here if evidence points to the contrary, please get in touch via Linked In (below) if you have any thoughts or comments, be polite, I'm nice.

I hope you enjoy the guide, it might not be long, or complete yet, but it has been 4 years in the making and I just wanted it out there.
